Jonathan Wald, DVM
Founder and Owner Since 1987
Since his childhood, Dr. Jonathan Wald has been an animal lover. It was a passion that carried him through eight years of intensive study at the University of Florida and the opening of Central Broward Animal Hospital in Plantation in 1987. Since founding Central Broward Animal Hospital, Dr. Wald takes great pride in the fact that his practice has grown into one of Broward County's most trusted and reputable animal care centers.
Even after all his years in practice, Dr. Wald's pure joy and passion for animal care and veterinary medicine remains evident. He loves coming to work to spend time with the animals we care for - so much so that he will take time each day to just say hello to all the pets at the hospital. He also loves spending time with his staff and nurturing our family-like practice culture, which translates to warmer, friendlier and better coordinated service for our clients and patients.
Dr. Wald's family also shares his passion for animals. His wife Melissa and daughters Lindsay and Danielle, when not at college, can often be found helping out at the hospital. Rounding out the Wald family are Shea and Chase, two Golden Retrievers that accompany Dr. Wald to work each day to eagerly greet hospital visitors. In addition, they adopted a retired racehorse named Varitek and have a turtle named Tortuga that they rescued from the backyard pool.
Dr. Wald received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Neurobiology from the University of Florida in 1980 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. Originally from New York, South Florida's tropical weather and friendly residents prompted Dr. Wald to relocate and open his own animal hospital here.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Wald enjoys running, biking, and spending time with his family and pets.
Janeen Lezcano, DVM, Senior Associate Veterinarian
Central Broward Animal Hospital Family Team Member Since 2002
Dr. Lezcano joined Dr.Wald and the Central Broward Animal Hospital team in 2002 and has never looked back. She loves everything about being a veterinarian in Plantation, where she can spend the day doing what she loves most: helping pets and their parents. Dr. Lezcano brings her veterinary expertise and laughter to the hospital every day. Fluent in both Spanish and English, she can assist families in either language.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Lezcano cites her childhood love for and devotion to animals as the primary reason she became a veterinarian. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Florida in 1992 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida's School of Veterinary Medicine in 1996.
Dr. Lezcano is married to her college sweetheart, Carlos, the District Manager with the Department of Hotels and Restaurants. Her two children, Carlos and Natalie, share their mother's love for animals and can sometimes be seen helping out at the hospital. The family also includes two dogs, a Yorkie named Apple and a rescue named Pie who was saved from an abusive home.
Outside work, Dr. Lezcano enjoys reading, traveling, Italian food and spending time with her family.
Lara Oms, DVM
Dr. Lara Oms joined Central Broward Animal Hospital in January 2004. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she is the daughter of an ophthalmologist and a pediatrician. While Dr. Oms found human medicine interesting, her love of animals and her experience working in an animal hospital helped her decide to pursue a career as a veterinarian.
In 1996 Dr. Oms graduated from American University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Animal Sciences. She continued her studies at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Dr. Oms went on to complete an internship in medicine and surgery at Purdue University.
Now at Central Broward Animal Hospital for more than a decade, Dr. Oms loves and appreciates our friendly atmosphere and family-oriented focus. "It makes it a wonderful place to be when our patients, their parents and our staff are all so close with each other!" she says.
Dr. Oms and her husband Blendi have a beautiful daughter Alexandra, whom Dr. Oms hopes will be a veterinarian one day. The family has two rescue cats, Minina and Piccolina. Dr. Oms adopted Minina from a shelter while in veterinary school and found Piccolina in a trash can. They both hold a special place in her heart and she is grateful for their unconditional love and affection.
Besides spending time with her family, Dr Oms' hobbies include traveling and experiencing different cultures, reading and going to the beach. Despite no longer living in Puerto Rico, the cuisine of her beautiful native island continues to be her favorite.
